Frosting "Sugar Free" Cut Out Cookies

December 14, 2009

The night before I made the sugarless dough. It's called sugarless because I used Agave Nectar instead of sugar. I left it in the fridge over night. The next day the children chose what shape they wanted and my parent helper rolled out the dough for them. Next they used the cookie cutter to stamp out the shape. I then placd them in the toaster oven. Whne they were baked, the children frosted their cookie. The frosting was also "sugarless", used agave nectar. The frosting was also dyed pink by using raspberries, and green using a very small amount of avacado.

It was fun watching their exciement when they had completed frosting their cookie and then tasting the final product.

Music In The Classroom

August 12 2009
Today was a magical day! Jon, Quinn's dad, came in to share his musical talent with us. He also brought in several different instruments for the children to play.

The autoharp, tambourine, guitar, harmanica, shakers, maracas, juice harp, and the finger piano. At one point we all sat at line with an instrument in hand and played while Jon strummed his guitar and played the harmonica-amazing. Let me just say for the record, these children are 18m-2.5
yrs. old! We layed 2 songs together, just jammin. Eventually some of the children got up to choose works while the others facsinated with thhe instruments stayed. It was so much fun.

What an amazing Monday! Normally Monday's are funny because the children come back
from the weekend having slept in, or stay up late at night, ect.
The children came in today calm, really focused, and engaged in work. They all went from one
work to another. This was the first day where I could sit down, away from them, and write
obervational notes-yay!!!

It feels good knowing that the children trust Janet and I, and are comfortable with their
classroom and friends.
The special presentation today was a drum.
At line I showed the children all the different ways you could play it. I then asked each of them
if they would like a turn playing the drum, anyway they like. Each of them came up with their own special way.I liked the scratching of the drum.
Tomorrow we will make drums of our own.

Potluck

August 16 2009

I must say I can't do what I do without the love and support of my parents.
I just got back from a potluck at a park, where I met the parents and their kids. There was a wonderful spread of food, great conversations, and beautiful weather. These are the days where you sit back a give thanks for being a teacher, and having a chance to
meet wonderful supportive people! Only bad thing is, I forgot my camera!
Hopefully one of the parents caught a little of what was going on with their camera.
It was funny to see that some of the children weren't sure about me being there. It's that
whole seeing your teacher outside of school bit. They truly believe teachers live at the
school and don't leave. They become a little shy. Overall it was a great way to spend a Sunday
afternoon.

Designing The Classroom

July 31 2009
Today I spent a couple hours at Ikea buying supplies for the classroom.
I must say it is a teacher's paradise for organization!
I found a beautiful art piece for the wall.

Indoor plants, small cups, bowls and plates, and baskets for the children's extra underwear and clothing. We also picked up some art frames for displaying our hand washing signs, bathroom

signs and fire exit. Here is a picture of the glass jars for snack, cutting board, candles, and the frames all from Ikea.

Beginning The Journey

June 19
Last day of my nanny position. Start of a new chapter!

July 1
Today was a very exciting day! I came to the school to find all of my furniture in boxes.
The class I am teaching in has just been built. The workers are sill putting in carpet, toilets, sinks, ect. Very exciting!
Me, the administrator, and another teacher unloaded the boxes and placed the furniture
in the new classrooms. All of my shelves are toddler size ,very small.
It started to take on a new feel, I was very anxious to design it peice by peice.
First the cubbies, then the shelves, next the tables.
All the tables needed to have the legs put in them and none if the numbers on he led box
matched up to the table box. This should be interesting.
Once the furniture was placed how I wanted it, then it was time to make a list of supplies.
While I was making a list the workers were putting in new toilets and shelves, toddler size.
Here is are two pictures of my bathroom so far.
